Programme Description
The Diploma in Physiotherapy is a 3-year programme that focuses on the application of physical therapy practice, knowledge and skill to prevent problems arising from various disorders related to human body movement. First year students will learn the basic structure and function of the human body, human behaviour, therapeutic exercises and modalities. In the second year, students will learn to deliver safe and effective treatment, emphasising on clinical conditions and Physiotherapy management related to musculoskeletal, cardio-respiratory, neuroscience, women�s health and geriatrics. In the final year, the modules are centred on real world practice. Students will be posted at various hospitals as a part of practical training to achieve minimum 1000 clinical hours in managing patients with disabled conditions such as lower-back pain, arthritis, heart disease, fractures, head injuries, neurological disorders, gynaecological ailments, cerebral palsy, post-surgical patients and accident victims. Upon completion, students can choose to practice in a specific field.
Programme Aims
Provide a comprehensive learning in the contemporary practice of Physical therapy that serve to embark on the rewarding career in Physiotherapy to the community
Prepare students with hands-on training in real world practice to assess and deliver safe and ethical Physical therapy procedures in the treatment of patients with functional limitations/restrictions
Facilitate the students to communicate effectively to positively impact their patients, community and profession with the importance of rehabilitative procedures
Career Prospects
Physiotherapists can work in a wide range of fields such as hospitals, healthcare centres, woman�s health services, community/neuro rehab centres, special centres for disabled people, special schools for children, orthopedic centres, cardiac fitness centres, mental care & nursing homes, voluntary organisations, private rehab centres, clinical officers in colleges and universities or a fitness instructor.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must have SPM/SPMV/O-Level/UEC, according to specific requirements as stated below:
For Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) programme, a credit in Mathematics and Science and a pass in Bahasa Malaysia and English is required Or a pass in UEC with 1 B and minimum C for Science, Mathematics, Bahasa Malaysia and English
For Occupational Therapy programme, a credit in Science and a pass in Mathematics, Bahasa Malaysia and English is required
For Physiotherapy Programme, a credit in Science or Sport Science is required with a pass in Bahasa Malaysia and English
For Nursing programme, 5 credits inclusive of Mathematics and Science, a pass in Bahasa Malaysia and English is required
For Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy programmes, candidates should not have any disabilities that may affect their studies or future employment
